Underscoring the ongoing efforts of the Monica Dennis Goldberg School for Women Advocates and its Yad L’Isha: Max Morrison Legal Aid Center and Hotline to ease the plight of agunot – women whose husbands refuse to grant them a Jewish divorce – Rabbi Shlomo Riskin addressed the conference of the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance (JOFA) in February. The OTS chancellor reviewed halakhic solutions that have been proposed to address the probem, including annulment (hafkaat kiddushin), marriage under false pretenses (kiddushei ta’ut) and conditional marriage (kiddushin al tnai), discussing the possibilities of promoting their acceptance in today’s rabbinic establishment
