This week’s Torah portion opens by identifying the two individuals whom Pinchas pierced by the sword at the conclusion of last week’s parsha, Balak. But why is that story in fact placed at the end of Balak - where it is seemingly irrelevant -- and why is it not at the beginning of this week's portion, where it appears to better belong?
